About the role

This is a full-time, fixed term contract post until 30 August 2028, subject to review.

As Protestants and males are currently known to be under-represented in this job group, in Belfast City Council, applications from this group would be particularly welcome. And as young people (people under the age of 35), people with a disability and people from minority ethnic communities are currently under-represented in Belfast City Council, applications from these groups would be particularly welcome.

As part of our commitment to equality of opportunity, we offer a Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) for disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the post. Belfast City Council is an Equal Opportunities Employer. All applications for employment are considered strictly on the basis of merit.

If you are appointed to the post, you will report to the Programme Manager and be responsible for all the people-facing opportunities within the Alleyways Transformation Programme (ATP).

You will assist the  Programme Manager on the development of a blueprint for a sustainable alleyway transformation service. This will include a diverse range of interventions shaped by local circumstances and the particular interest of each community. The programme will seek to revitalise 25 miles of the cities alleyways by March 2028.

You will be responsible for:

  • acting as the main point of contact for community groups, schools, faith groups, public bodies, charities, businesses and volunteers;
  • working closely with other project staff and other Council Officers to remove barriers to participation by delivering community engagement events, training and project co-design sessions, building the capacity of local communities in line with the Programme Plan; and
  • working with other Council Officers in the promotion and development of the use of the city’s alleyway spaces, maximizing their potential to become shared spaces, fostering improved positive relations between neighbours and mental and physical health outcomes for people, improving biodiversity and climate resilience, while ensuring alignment with the Council’s plans and long-term vision.
