You will be responsible: 

To assist the Civic Services Manager in the effective operation of the reception and telephony functions and supervision of all assigned staff, and for the effective planning and supervision of the work of the Civic Buildings Assistant and the Operations Assistant.

To assist the Civic Services Manager in the implementation of safe systems of work within the Civic HQ Unit and across the Facilities unit’s other activities, for the development of effective fire safety and evacuation processes and topical risk assessments, for effective liaison with the corporate Health and Safety Unit in respect of all aspects of the Facilities Unit’s work and for compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, policies and best practice.

To assist the Civic Services Manager in the provision of an effective ‘landlord’ role in buildings owned or leased by the council, and for the monitoring and enforcement of any staff policies established in respect of the use of built assets.

To assist the Civic Services Manager in the management and administration of all assigned staff car-parking facilities.

To assist as required in respect of the functions and exhibitions work-stream and also in the general administrative work of the unit.


About the department

The Legal and Civic Services Department provides expert legal, governance, and civic support to the council. This includes:

  • Delivering a full range of legal services to ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Overseeing corporate governance arrangements to uphold transparency and accountability.
  • Supporting elected members and civic dignitaries in fulfilling their roles.
  • Managing the Registrar’s Office, responsible for registering births, deaths, marriages, and civil partnerships.
  • Overseeing Facilities Management to maintain and enhance council properties.
