About the role

This is a full-time, fixed term contract post until 14 September 2027, subject to review.

You will be responsible to the Senior Online Accessibility and Compliance Officer for:

  • managing, developing and designing content on websites as part of a web editing team;

    writing and editing content for our websites and digital channels, manipulating graphics and repurposing multimedia content;

  • making sure that standards are maintained in relation to online content including compliance with legislation and guidelines;

  • liaising with internal departments, advising them on the most effective and efficient way to communicate clearly and effectively through digital channels including web and social networking;

  • working closely with staff in our IT section to deliver quality internet services and new technologies.

About the department

This department leads on strategic communications, marketing, and public engagement, ensuring that council activities are effectively communicated to residents, businesses, and stakeholders.  Key functions include:

  • Campaigns, Press and Social Media – developing and delivering strategic communication priorities for council; providing a strong reactive media and social media service; assisting in the development of proactive marketing and communications plans for departments.
  • Marketing and Brand – coordinating and delivering integrated marketing campaigns encompassing advertising, public relations, publications, digital marketing and social media – through working closely with a wide range of stakeholders; providing advice on the use and promotion of council and city brands.
  • Internal Communications – Developing and implementing an internal communications strategy for Belfast City Council which includes sharing news and information with staff through a range of online and offline channels.
  • Online Experience – Looks after the council’s online estate, ensuring that our audiences and citizens can easily find and access accurate information through our websites and email marketing.

This team works to enhance Belfast’s reputation, promote civic engagement, and support council initiatives.
